RE: Walmart

for all that think staying at Walmart is not a good thing, they will be happy shortly. More and more the truckers are taking over the Walmart lots. The problem is truckers are very heavy and they kill the lots leaving holes that will consume a motorhome and oil spots the size of Rhode Island. so the time for "Walmart stop-overs" will be coming to a hault. To bad the campground industry does not have a system for, dry camping, stop over areas. Nothing fancy and right off the interstates, maybe in connection with rest areas. I guess that would involve doing work with the states (forget that) IT MUST BE TRUE, I READ IT ON THE INTERNET!!! I think you started a bad rumor. Ben

RE: 134 A/C complete recharge.

WHOA! This is absolute BS! Mixing mineral and PAG oils will do really, really bad things. It may work, but not for long. Could you elaborate? What should I be looking for? What kind of "bad" things? Ben

RE: Need suggestion for small audio amplifier

Yes. the second one you listed is what I am looking for. I do not know how some of you find this stuff. I use 3 differednt search engines and different wording of me searches with no such luck. Thanks a million. Ben

RE: Need suggestion for small audio amplifier

Wow, I cant catch a break here. I thought the RS one would work. Good thing they had an online manual. The one from ThinkGeek is kind of spendy. Ben

Thanks for the suggestions. The second Radio Shack item looks like it will work for me...and at a fair price. Ben

RE: Need suggestion for small audio amplifier

Radio Shack audio amp Another Radio Shack audio amplifier I visited Radio Shack today and I told the clerk what I was looking for, an audio amplifier. She in turn asked someone who looked to be an assistant mgr. I was told the only amplifiers they have were antenna amplifiers. I was a quite disipointed. They never suggested radio shack online or looked one up at their computer.....and they were not busy. I remember when they hired techies out of electrinic class. Those were the days. (Stepping off my soap box now.) Ben

Need suggestion for small audio amplifier

In regards to my post of trying to get the new TV hooked to the coach speakers. Could someone suggest a small amp that would fit my needs. Preferably 110 volt. A link to where they are sold would be quite beneficial. Nothing fancy. Ben

RE: 134 A/C complete recharge.

The retro fit label is NOT important because the new charging connectors tell the COMPLETE story to any and everyone that would try to work on the system. I think I'll put some type of label on it anyway. I like the fact of not trying to guess on things. Thanks for everybody's input. It is appreciated. Ben

RE: Rate your sleep sofa

Two questions: 1) How would you rate your sleep sofa on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being best)? I rate my sofa a 4 for sitting. Any jacknife only gets a 8 for my vote. 2) Do you really need a sleep sofa in a Class A? I like the lazy boy idea myself. Only you can answer this question. Do you have A LOT of overnighters? Is it worth the cost? Sleep on your sofabed/jacknife and find out for yourself. The question is the same when it comes to kitchen table w/ chairs or a booth.....I vote table. Have 'em sleep on an air matress on the floor w/ plenty of padding. Ben

RE: 134 A/C complete recharge.

I pushed the shop into getting it finished Thursday night, I pulled out of there at 7 pm. Otherwise he was going to have me bring it back on Monday. He was on his third day (and billed me for five hours). I asked if he flushed out the mineral oil. He told me it does not need to be "flushed" and the conversion stuff will mix with the left over mineral oil and it will work just fine. The hose ends leaked and apparently one of them started spaying R134 in his face. He stopped and replaced both of the hoses. I guess, as a few of you mentioned, the R134A can leak through smaller holes than the R12. It looked as if he used the same type of fittings for the new hoses they had new crimped sleeves on them. The o-rings were green. He said he put in 3# of R134A and watched his gauges while he did it. I can see a bubble at the sight glass on the new dryer. I did NOT see a label that the system had been retrofitted with R134A. I will ask him about that on Monday after work. FYI. The shop specialized in AC and Radiators. They also advertise exhaust and total car care. The AC measured 46.9* at the vents......I had to turn it off on the way home cuz it was so cold. I am satisfied other than the bill......I'm not gunna tell you. Lets just say I need to work 1-1/2 days of overtime to pay for it. Ben

RE: 134 A/C complete recharge.

Ben, I agree. You should look up on the internet 'DIY AUTO AIR CONDITIONER REPAIR' You will get more info than you thought possible. I just put a new accumulator on my Ford pickup and recharged the system with one of tghe cheap kits purchased at Napa. Everything is easy and straight forward. Allen I would have done this, but I feel I would have spent the $ at NAPA and then something would have gone wrong. (I would not have thought to check for bad o-rings) I would have had to spent more $ at a shop to get it right. This is exactly what happened to my ride-share friend.

134 A/C complete recharge.

So after the rebuild and radiator/oil cooler flush and clean I need to recharge my cab A/C. When I took this thing apart, the cold stuff came out of it just fine. Yesterday the shop guy gets around to checking the gaskets and stuff. We decide to switch from freon to 134 refrigerant. He calls this morning to tell me that he put a charge in it last night and this morning it had not kept the pressure and it will need new hoses. A couple of questions.... 1-I heard that a different type of gas is used initally to check for leaks as to not waste the refrigerant, true? 2-A bunch of freon came out when I dismantled it....so now the hoses are leaking??? 3-Should this job actually take 4 days to do? (freon was $4.30/oz and 134 refrig is $1.16/oz. I was told it will take 3# of charge) Ben

RE: Marker lights - sealant

The lenses should pop off easy enough. You can then access the two screws. If you want unscrew them and reseal the screw holes and the hole the wire(s) go into the house. Ben

RE: Have you ever WON a great prize?

I got lucky two days before I was drafted and won a very nice salt water pole/reel combo and some other goodies to go with it. I won it for catching the biggest striped bass I had even caught (true to this day too). It was during an annual 3 day derby my town in CA held each year. It was some 28.5#. Caught bigger salmon and sturgeon in my time however. My dad keep the pole and tackle while I did my thing in the Army. I still have the pole, and a pix of the fish and I somewhere. But it's embarrassing today to think of how young I was when the Army grabbed me for service in 1966. You know, I have come to a conclusion. If I ever get back to salt water again I may not leave again! :W I also won a couple of trips in the Army, but I never competed for that duty at all! :S Thats a good story KeninAZ. Might I say, "Nice Catch"!

RE: I dont like my stock timing

I cannot read my timing past 20 I believe. The pointer does not go up that far. I do not have a computer hooked up or a digital light. When I had it set @ 4* the total was @ 18* so I figure there is a 14* advance @ idle. Never heard of setting my timing at total advance. Besides, I think I am done with the timing for now.....The doghouse is now bolted...finally. Ben

RE: Uhf/Vhf after the digital switch

Little confusion here. That site listed is selling high gain, outdoor, UHF antennas -- not Smart Antennas. The Smart Antenna is an indoor antenna that connects to your coax input and also (via RJ11 connector)connects to a digital/analog converter. When you select a channel with the converter it tunes the Smart Antenna and amplifier for that channel and selects one of three directional antennas for best signal. I've been hunting for a Smart Antenna here in Sacramento area for weeks, to plug into my RCA Digital/Analog converter which has the RJ11 input jack. Has anyone foound a source? Sorry for the confusion. After reading this link, I realize that it would be more of a smart antenna system. But I think we are after the same thing. Something that will seek out only the signal we are after and not be bothered with the other interference. Thanks for making the clarification. My point is that I would like an antenna/booster that will recieve good strong signals, uhf/vhf/digital from MPLS/ST. Paul broadcasters which are located about 70 miles away. For free! enough of dropping $50 for a satellite service that gets me the basics. Ben

RE: I dont like my stock timing

And then I need to build myself an adapter to convert the output of the OBD1 to your serial port? As in your diagram, correct? I have a radio shack in town along with a couple of computer stores. I'll print out your post to see if they have what I need. First I need to find the OBD1 on the 92 Brave. Ben
